What is Street Ball? (3×3 Basket)

Streetball, more recently also known as 3×3 basketball, is a variation of basketball, typically played on open air half-courts by 2 teams of 3 players and featuring significantly less formal structure and enforcement of the game’s rules. As such, its format is more conducive to allowing players to publicly showcase their own individual skills and not many rules are applied.

Street Origins

Streetball has been around since the birth of basketball, but it got popularised by the turn of the 20th century, when it spread east to cities like New York City, Washington D.C. and Philadelphia. Streetball reflects the adaptation of the conventional sport to the cityscape and to youth culture from the poorer communities. That is why streetball is connected to the image of the ghetto, which has connections with RAP and HipHop music.
